I’m back from Ghana and Deb is on her way to Minnesota to give a speech. It feels like months since we’ve been in the same place at one time!
My Dad’s funeral was an amazing experience. Over 1000 people turned out to pay tribute to him at the main Methodist Cathedral in Accra. 28 bishops came from all over the country, three choirs performed and my brother who is a gifted pianist played one of my father’s favorite pieces of music.
In spite of the loss, it was a time of joy and love as discovered how rich our father’s life was and met many of the people whose lives he had touched. It was also an opportunity to see family and friends we had known throughout the many years of my parents’ lives. I reconnected with my oldest and best friend from nursery school whom I hadn’t seen for the last 15 years.
This week millions celebrated Valentine’s Day – a day that has a special meaning in my life as it’s also my birthday. Our theme this month is Love and today we explore the Language of Love.

The Language of Love by: Adoley Odunton
For many years, my experience of Valentine’s Day was defined by whether I was in a relationship or not. The heat was on because Valentine’s Day was also my birthday. If I was in a relationship, my boyfriends were under pressure to create a really special day. If I wasn’t or if I was in the wrong one, Valentine’s Day would underscore what was missing in my life. What a relief now Valentine’s Day is just another day. A lovely one in that it encourages us to remember and celebrate love, but a day in which I remember that my experience of love isn’t tied to an event but is a way of being. How grateful I am for my wonderful husband, Jim, and to be in a relationship where love is an every day experience.
I thought of this as I overheard a group of women comparing notes on the bouquets and gifts they received this Valentine’s Day. One of their co-workers had received several huge bouquets at work that completely dwarfed everyone else’s. Congratulations to Ximena Salazar one of our Synergy Coaching Circle participants on her engagement on Valentine's Day. Ximena is a true demonstration of the Power of Intention which is the theme of our upcoming Synergy Circle.
Ximena is a gifted Feng Shui expert and was co-founder along with Deb and I of Emerge, the networking group we ran for a year. Ximena joined our circle in 2004.
